PAST WORKS
calling glenn
Created in collaboration with Wilco’s percussionist Glenn Kotche, Calling Glenn offers an experience where humor, introspection, and raw energy converge.
This piece combines physicality with intricate and mesmerizing rhythmic creation, diving into a contemporary reflection on life’s rituals while unveiling unexpected moments of sincerity and insight.
"Not every good choreographer develops a language, and Ms. Agami speaks her borrowed tongue with considerable skill."
Brian Seibert of the New York Times
A Blind Lady
Set against the backdrop of Los Angeles, A Blind Lady explores the tension between the commercial world and the dance community.
Through a cinematic blend of expressive movement, narration, live music by Spanish singer Lourdes Hernandez (a.k.a. Russian Red), and evocative visuals, this piece questions the influence of advertising and consumer culture on our perceptions.
Agami’s choreography invites audiences to confront these forces, revealing the isolation and introspective journey of each character within a collective environment.
"Of Agami's works that I have seen, this was her most stark and isolating. Each character appeared cut off or lost among many."
Jeff Slayton of LA Dance Chronicle
Fishing
Featuring Emmy Award-winning actor Jon Hamm, Fishing brings together music, text, and movement in an exploration of the absurdity and beauty of desire.
This collaboration between Danielle Agami, Glenn Kotche, and writer Nadav Heyman delves into the unusual relationship between a writer named Jon and his wife.
Through live music, poetic text, and evocative choreography, Fishing unveils the humorous yet profound dynamics of love and connection, making it a unique blend of storytelling and performance art.
"The brash piece [is] characterized by saucy stances, bold opinions and a desire to push the boundaries in order to make the viewers feel how she feels."
Luara Altunian of LA Dance Chronicle
JOY
Accompanied by the live compositions of Isaiah Gage, Joy is a poignant yet humorous exploration of human habits and addictions.
This piece delves into the universal longing for moments of lightness amidst life’s struggles.
Through intimate and expressive movements, the dancers reveal glimpses of their inner mental and physical states, offering audiences a profound reflection on the complexities of joy and the delicate balance between resilience and vulnerability.
"Agami's work reshapes the idea of what is possible in the body,
communicating a sensation-based understanding to an observant audience and challenging them to absorb the feeling."
Celine Kiner, LA Dance Chronicle
